Trapped Neutrophil Syndrome in a Border Collie Confirmed Trapped Neutrophil Syndrome in a Border Collie Puppy in Israel

چکیده

ABST RACT The case report describes a Border collie puppy diagnosed with trapped neutrophil syndrome (TNS), an autosomal recessive inherited neutropenia. The report describes the clinical presentation, the course of the disease and diagnosis. Chronologically it appeared that that vaccination may have been a potential initiating factor in instigating the TNS in the puppy. The puppy also developed clinical signs of hypertrophic osteodystrophy (HOD). It was not possible to determine whether either vaccination and/or the development of HOD were coincidental. To the best knowledge of the author this is the first genetically confirmed case of TNS described in Israel and the first case documented outside the U.K or Australia. It is recommended that TNS should be weighed as a possibility in any Border collie puppy which presents with symptoms of a vague illness and confirmed neutropenia.

Novel insertion mutation of ABCB1 gene in an ivermectin-sensitive Border Collie

P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is encoded by the ABCB1 gene and acts as an efflux pump for xenobiotics. In the Border Collie, a nonsense mutation caused by a 4-base pair deletion in the ABCB1 gene is associated with a premature stop to P-gp synthesis. In this study, we examined the full-length coding sequence of the ABCB1 gene in an ivermectin-sensitive Border Collie that lacked the aforementioned delet...

Progressive Retinal Atrophy in the Border Collie: A new XLPRA

BACKGROUND Several forms of progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) segregate in more than 100 breeds of dog with each PRA segregating in one or a few breeds. This breed specificity may be accounted for by founder effects and genetic drift, which have reduced the genetic heterogeneity of each breed, thereby facilitating the identification of causal mutations. We report here a new form of PRA segregat...

The use of border collies in avian and wildlife control programs

Airports attract large numbers of wildlife primarily because they offer immense tracts of foraging and nesting habitats free from the threat of predation. Border collies can serve as an effective means of wildlife control in these environments by introducing a predator into the ecosystem. Many wildlife dispersal methods seek to imitate predators or the effect of predators and become increasingl...

The Predictive Value of Early Behavioural Assessments in Pet Dogs – A Longitudinal Study from Neonates to Adults

Studies on behavioural development in domestic dogs are of relevance for matching puppies with the right families, identifying predispositions for behavioural problems at an early stage, and predicting suitability for service dog work, police or military service. The literature is, however, inconsistent regarding the predictive value of tests performed during the socialisation period. Additiona...
